NCKWS Ikeage 2005

Members of NCKWS gathered October 8, 2005 at the home of Philip and JoAnne Bronikowski to participate in an Ikeage. Club members had purchased high quality tosai from Toyoma Koi in late March and were given the opportunity to leave their fish in a mud pond to see how they would turn out after a growing season. Most members have never had the opportunity to experience this type of event. Risks of leaving fish to grow in a mud pond include predators, disease and unpredictable outcomes. Five members decided to take the gamble, and left seven fish in the mud to grow from April to October. Hope number one was that everyone's fish would still be there come harvest, and hope two was that development was good. Members went seven for seven with all the fish coming out with good development and roughly 5" to 8.5" of growth in 6 months. Below are scenes of the harvest, and the before and after pics of the members fish. (Thanks to Pat Wallace for taking these action shots.)

Let the fun begin!

Time for another pass.

I see a quarter!

What's everyone looking at?

Time for measurements.
